What Is Google Knowledge Graph? How to Get a Knowledge Panel

Did you know Google has a type of display panel that gives users quick information about a topic? That is the Google knowledge panel , which users see first when they search for a keyword. Would you like your business to appear in Google's knowledge graph and reach more customers? This article, MONA Media will help you answer the question what is the Google Knowledge Graph and share how you can get onto the Google knowledge panel.
The concept of the Google Knowledge Graph
Google Knowledge Graph (Knowledge Panel) is the information box that appears first on Google when users search for entities (such as people, places, organizations or things), provided those entities are in Google's Knowledge Graph. The box is meant to give users quick information about the search topic, based on what Google understands from content already on the web.
How is the Google Knowledge Graph different from a Business Profile?
A Business Profile looks like a knowledge panel too, but it is for businesses that serve customers at a specific location or within a designated service area. You can use Google My Business to verify ownership or create a Business Profile. It also appears first on Google when users search for the business.

How Google builds the Knowledge Graph
The Knowledge Graph knowledge panel is usually created automatically. The information in the panel comes from many different sources across websites. In some cases Google works with a few trusted information partners, then combines their data with information from film, music, press and more to verify an entity.
Google knows that an entity with information in a knowledge panel (such as a notable person or the creator of a show) is a reliable source of information. So Google gives these people detailed tools to change their information to the right standard themselves. That is why people who appear in the Google knowledge panel can suggest the most accurate changes to their information.
The images shown in a knowledge panel also come from a few sources. One is the person who has verified the panel and chosen a featured image from those available on the website. Otherwise, the images are a preview of Google Images results for the entity, picked automatically from any website.
Note: If you see that the image in a knowledge panel is not the official image of the entity, use the feedback link at the bottom right of the panel to suggest an edit to the content. Google will then review it for you.
How to verify your identity on Google
Once you have verified an entity you own on Google, you can manage it and suggest edits to the knowledge panel. After Google verifies you, you will see the suggest-edit option at the top of the knowledge panel.
Step 1: Verify your identity
Create a Google account, then find the knowledge panel for that entity. At the bottom, choose Verify this knowledge panel. Users can find the option in the Introducing. Then review the information.
Sign in to one of the official websites or profiles listed for the entity below:
- Search Console
- YouTube
Note: If Google cannot work out which website is linked to the entity, it will ask you for more information to help verify the entity.
Step 2: Add more users
After verifying an entity, you can add users as authorized representatives.
- Go to the link: https://www.google.com/search/contributions/manage.
- In the section “Add users to this account”, click Get started.
- Click Add new user.
- Enter this user's Gmail address
- Choose whether the user is given management rights. To grant management rights, just slide the toggle to the right.
- Click the Invite.
You can set different permissions for users:
- Manager: Can suggest changes to the knowledge panel and add or remove users.
- Owner: Has the same rights as a manager.
- Contributor: Can suggest changes to the details in the knowledge panel.
Step 3: Third-party verification
Google automatically stores the links between your accounts. To remove these links:
- Accessibility Webmaster Central.
- In the list of properties you own, click the Twitter or Facebook account you want to remove.
- In the “Action” column, click Unverify.
Step 5: Troubleshooting
If you run into any of the following problems with a knowledge panel, contact Google to get them resolved:
- The knowledge panel content is mixed up with content from another party with the same or a similar name
- The knowledge panel shows the wrong website or profile name
- You get an error saying the panel is already managed by someone else.
Step 6: Linked account errors
If you see an error saying you cannot sign in to the linked account, make sure you are using the right Google Account linked to your website or profile. You can also try the following:
- Add the owner to the website: If you have not added an owner, add the topic's official website to Search Console. Then simply add the website owner to the official website.
- Transfer ownership of a YouTube channel: Each YouTube channel can have 1 owner. Only the current owner can transfer ownership to a new owner.

How to update the Google Knowledge Graph
A knowledge panel updates automatically when information changes on a website, but Google reviews changes in 2 main ways: directly or indirectly.
Steps to suggest a change
- Go to Google Search
- Log in to to the account that has the entity in the Google Knowledge Graph
- Check that the following is turned on: Web & App Activity.
- Find your entity and its knowledge panel.
- At the entity's title, click Suggest an edit.
- Select the information you want to change. If you want to suggest several changes, submit each one separately
- In the feedback box that opens, enter a short description that covers: the change you are suggesting, and why you believe your suggestion should replace the existing content. Be sure to provide all URLs that are publicly accessible and confirm the changes you are suggesting.
- Select Submit.
Specific suggested changes in the knowledge panel
Featured image
As the entity's representative, if the image you suggest is accepted by Google, it will take priority over other images. The suggested image must be relevant, represent the topic and contain no advertising.
How to reset the featured image:
- Go to your knowledge panel.
- Select Suggest an edit.
- In the image section, select the icon Edit .
- Enter the image URL.
Note: Add the exact URL of the image, not the URL of the website.
Headline
Knowledge panel title is the first text you see: the name of a person, place, organization or thing, which describes the whole panel. The title is generated automatically by Google's system. Google only changes it when there is clear evidence that the subject's name has actually changed.
Subtitle
Knowledge panel subtitle is the line that appears below the title. The subtitle is also generated automatically by Google.
Example: Google currently identifies MONAMedia as a “Website design company”, “Web-app development company”, among others. If you want Google to confirm that MONA Media is a “Web development and website design company”, you need evidence from specific information sources.
Description
The description comes from many data sources. Google cannot change the description. It comes from a specific source, so you need to contact that source directly to get it edited.
Social media profiles
You can change social media profiles, but you cannot reorder them.
Other items
Besides the items above, there are others, and Google supports editing any that are not accurate. In a knowledge panel, you can also remove entities that are minors. Or you can update figures, for example “30000 clients” in 2026 instead of “3000 clients” from 2020 data.
How Google evaluates suggested changes
Google evaluates the facts you provide and, above all, the exact URLs you give. After reviewing, Google will email you if it plans to publish the changes you suggested. If you receive that email, your information on the Google Knowledge Graph has been edited successfully!
That covers the what is the Google Knowledge Graph and the steps to get an entity onto the Google knowledge panel.
