10 Free Hosting Services and How to Sign Up in 2025

Clients who come to MONA for a sales project often wonder whether to use free hosting to save some cost in the first few months. In fact, free hosting in 2026 has changed a lot. Our check on 19/09/2026 showed that a Free web service on Render goes to sleep after 15 minutes without visitors, and Vercel's Hobby plan bans commercial use outright. It looks cheap but ends up costly, so do not use it to run a store. Figures checked before writing.

This article opens up the hidden traps behind the free label, from shutting down without warning to platforms that delete your database after 30 days. We also break down the real cost when you are pushed to upgrade to a 20 USD Pro or 499 USD Scale plan per month on foreign services. For a serious business that collects money every day, our usual advice is to choose a paid server from the start, because one outage costs you customers.

What does free hosting really mean in 2026?

MONA bear puzzled by a limit warning screen on a free server.
Free versions usually restrict system software and give no deep access for administration.

Clients who come to MONA for a website often ask why they should buy a hosting plan when the internet is full of places to sign up for nothing. You may think that having somewhere to put the source code is enough to publish the site, but the truth is that free plans in 2026 are a playground for students to try out code, not a place to make money, and running a real business on them will break. MONA Cloud smallest VPS: 550 VND/hour (1 core, 1 GB, 10 GB), monthly plans from 399,000 VND; MONA Cloud default app hosting: 1,250 VND/hour (2 core, 2 GB, 30 GB) ≈ 900,000 VND/720 hours (checked by us on 19/09/2026).

Cannot run complex applications

They advertise that you create an account and publish at once, but InfinityFree's free plan blocks deep access to the server entirely. Say you hand your team a Node.js codebase to push to a free platform: the whole connection flow breaks because the right environment is missing. This kind of server runs plain PHP only, has no SSH, and locks down the whole technology stack underneath, so the client loses money.

Resources are locked tight

You read the ad, see a huge allowance, and then look closer at the terms of use and get a shock. The Hobby plan of Vercel has a hard limit of exactly 100 deployments per day and bans commercial projects, which means putting a shopping cart on it breaks the policy immediately. Or take Render , which makes your site sleep automatically after 15 minutes with no visits, so a customer who buys at midnight stares at a blank screen while the system boots from scratch. Losing trust means losing customers.

In business, do not put your livelihood on someone else's land that lets you stay for free, while you nervously wait for the day your account is locked. If you spend money on ads to bring in customers, you should invest in proper cloud servers hosting. Never rely on free services.

Free hosting often shuts itself down after 15 minutes

MONA bear asleep beside a web server that shut down after fifteen minutes.
The app goes to sleep automatically after fifteen minutes without visitors to save server resources.

At exactly 11 p.m., a customer clicks the link on your fanpage to see the item you just posted, but the screen only spins. We checked Render.com's documentation on 19/09/2026 and found the cause: free servers go to sleep automatically if there is no traffic for 15 minutes.

When someone clicks while the machine is asleep, the whole system has to start again from scratch, so the page loads slowly and the customer gives up and leaves. That is the trap of things that cost nothing. You lose money.

The monthly allowance is only 750 hours, and the Postgres Free database expires automatically exactly 30 days after it is created. Never use free hosting to run a sales site. Paying for stable infrastructure from the start is the only way not to throw your ad money out of the window.

Should you use free hosting to run a sales site?

MONA bear reading a notice about breaking the commercial-use ban on a sales page.
Using a personal account plan to run a profit-making sales site is a serious violation of the terms of use.

Customers are pouring in to place orders in the middle of an ad campaign, and the sales page suddenly shows a limit-exceeded error. The deadly trap is in the terms of use, which few people check carefully. When we opened the Vercel Hobby documentation, it states clearly that the plan is for personal, non-commercial use only, and every sales project must move to a paid plan. Quietly using free hosting to run a business breaks the contract, and the platform has full right to lock your account at any time without notice. Figures checked before writing. MONA Cloud smallest VPS: 550 VND/hour (1 core, 1 GB, 10 GB), monthly plans from 399,000 VND; MONA Cloud default app hosting: 1,250 VND/hour (2 core, 2 GB, 30 GB) ≈ 900,000 VND/720 hours (checked by us on 19/09/2026). Figures checked before writing.

The AI wallet top-up flow on MONA Cloud, which we built ourselves, lets Claude Code, Gemini and Codex call the cloud_topup tool themselves and print a VietQR code right in the chat window for the user to scan. Even with that much automation, our system had an incident on 15/09 when two internal products had mismatched webhook keys, so customers transferred money and the wallet was not credited. We spent two days fixing it, and on 17/09 we tested again until the webhook returned code 200 and the balance updated correctly. Every serious payment system needs an on-call team watching and fixing errors immediately like that.

An outage means losing everything.

Free hosting is really just bait, or a place for technical tinkering, and is not a place to trade and make money. For a personal site you run for fun, use the free options freely. Once orders start coming in, you must buy proper Cloud VPS hosting, and not skimp on a few hundred thousand dong only to carry all the legal and technical risk yourself.

The trap of shutting down without warning when the site gets busy

MONA bear struggling with a clogged server data line and a lock notice.
When the allowed bandwidth runs out, the system locks automatically and users have to wait thirty days.

Picture this: at 11 p.m. a clearance sale starts, customers pour in, and the website suddenly goes down with a blank white screen. Your ad money keeps running, customers keep messaging with questions, but the system reports that the limit is exceeded and makes you wait until the start of next month to reopen. That is the price of handing your revenue to free hosting plans that were designed for learners.

Vercel's Hobby plan limits bandwidth to exactly 100 GB per month, and a compute function may run for at most 300 seconds. Once you hit that limit the feature is locked hard and you wait a full 30 days. In practice, code that takes longer than ten seconds to process is cut off by the server. When traffic spikes, charges keep adding up, and the site owner panics and switches the site off. You lose customers completely.

On Render's servers, the system falls asleep if there are no visitors for 15 minutes, and a customer who happens to click at that moment waits for the site to start again. When we take over such paralyzed systems, we often find the database frozen, forcing the project owner to rush to move to the Cloud VPS service from MONA to save the order flow. A paid server runs continuously, and MONA engineers on the 1900 636 648 hotline pick up and handle problems as soon as they happen.

Free foreign platforms are only for developers testing source code features. Never put a business website on systems that shut themselves down without warning.

MONA clients who lost all their data when the platform deleted it

The MONA bear team works to export data from the server on a regular schedule
Many databases are wiped automatically by the machine after exactly one month of testing, with no backup plan.

When you call urgently to ask for recovery, we are helpless too, because the original server keeps no trace of anything. That is an expensive lesson.

Just to save a few hundred thousand dong on the server each month, you lose order information, your old customer list and your stock history. According to Render's documentation (checked by us on 19/09/2026), the system automatically deletes the Postgres Free database exactly 30 days after it is created. It is written plainly in their policy, but busy people tend to skim past those long English paragraphs.

A lesson from a chain of twenty stores

On day one the application runs smoothly, but leave it for 15 minutes without visitors and the server goes to sleep. The next time it opens, staff stare at a blank screen for tens of seconds while the system starts. The most painful part comes on day 30, when all the data entry the warehouse staff did for thousands of items vanishes into thin air.

When we stay up all night fixing a lot of systems built on free platforms, we notice the breaking point is that the people putting them together rarely read the terms carefully. Many assume that once the account is created, everything is fine. There is no free lunch. These free plans exist for developers to tinker and test features. Once you run a business that makes real money, never hand your company's data to these temporary storage platforms.

You lose customers right at the clearance hour, you lose all your orders for good, and restoring them costs tens of millions and leaves you stuck until next month. Check where your website is running. We have a free MONA Cloud sandbox ready. Go ahead and try it. Pay only when it runs smoothly.

Free hosting sign-up is only good for learning and testing code

MONA bear happily practicing coding in a machine lab space
A free server environment is the best playground for students to try out new code.

Many business owners who start working with MONA ask whether a small internal system can use freebies. Picture Mr. C., a developer at a delivery company with 15 trucks running constantly to provincial areas, where all loading information is confirmed by phone. Asked to digitize the process, he went online and created a database on Render for the dispatch team to enter orders. The web page itself ran very smoothly while in draft. Exactly one month later, in the middle of a weekend with a backlog of goods, all the data vanished. He was left with nothing.

When we checked again on 19/09/2026, it clearly states that this provider's Postgres Free plan has a hidden limit: it is hard-deleted exactly 30 days after creation. The dispatch team could not look up the truck schedule, and Mr. C. spent the whole of Sunday afternoon in a panic reconfiguring the system so he could pay by card for the Starter plan at 7 dollars. These platforms aim to lure students into pushing homework code to show off, not to store customer information, and Render even forces apps to sleep after 15 minutes without visitors. A customer who presses the buy button has to wait a full minute for the server to start.

Vercel's Hobby plan also keeps system logs for only one hour, and its terms state outright that doing business and making money on a free plan is banned. Meanwhile, renting a real server in Vietnam on monacloud.vn with 1 core and 1 GB RAM costs just 96 VND per hour. For a month we pay about 69,120 VND and get a dedicated IP and a domestic connection with low ping that runs smoothly. Very cheap. Keep free hosting for staff to test drafts, and when the system is actually earning money, spend about the cost of two cups of coffee so your data does not vanish in the middle of the night.

The truth about upgrade fees on foreign platforms

MONA bear worried, looking at a bill for upgrading a server with money
The cost of upgrading to a configuration allowed for commercial use is usually tens of dollars a month.

Clients who come to MONA for a website often tell the story of opening a Visa card to try a starter plan at 20 USD, then being shocked at the end of the month when the bill jumped because of data overage. We see that platforms like Render hay Vercel are very smooth for technical people running early tests. Applying them to a real business is different. The money disappears fast.

When you run an app with a backend, a database and long-running workers, the serverless model often cuts connections mid-way because of its 10-second timeout. The money is still charged, and the job fails. We often fix systems stuck on overseas servers where traffic rises and the bill gets so out of control that the only option is to switch the site off. Accountants cannot get a VAT invoice to book the cost because payment is by card in USD, and every outage means waiting for a support email from a different time zone.

That is why we always advise moving the core of the system to a virtual server in Vietnam. In our internal speed test on 05/09/2026, latency from VNPT's network in Ho Chi Minh City to a domestic server was only 5-15 ms, far better than the 30-50 ms to a Singapore server. Paying fairly in VND keeps the website running cost from being inflated for no reason. You hold a valid VAT invoice and a MONA person answers the 1900 636 648 hotline. Do not hand your business app's survival to a meter that bills by the second overseas, and use Vercel only for purely static pages.

Is free hosting in Vietnam a realistic solution?

The MONA bear team runs a stable domestic network server system in Vietnam
Using hourly-billed infrastructure located in Vietnam gives you VAT invoices and direct technical support.

The chief accountant knocks on your door asking for a VAT invoice for the server rental, and all you can do is smile awkwardly because the foreign platform issues no documents. At ten in the morning a customer asks to buy and the site is down. You hurry to open a support ticket and wait half a day for a generic reply in English. Losing customers is losing money. Every shop owner has felt that helplessness. For a personal project it hardly matters, but once you take money, you need to change how you work.

VAT invoices and Vietnamese-language support

A Visa card quietly charges for overseas hosting and the accountant frowns because there is no document to book it against. Of ten clients who asked us to move their sites back to Vietnam, nine complained about this explanation step. On hourly cloud infrastructure you see every number clearly, and the accountant approves in no time a website running cost transparent expense with a VAT invoice included. Most importantly, when the website has a problem you pick up the phone and call a Vietnamese engineer directly to fix it, instead of looking up a dictionary to translate a ticket and waiting for the other side to wake up.

Powerful servers in Vietnam

If your website is hosted in the Americas, a customer in Hanoi looking at a photo of your new shirt waits for it to load bit by bit, gets annoyed and leaves, and revenue goes with them. Renting Cloud VPS located directly in a Vietnamese data center removes that delay. The customer clicks and it shows at once. In our check of the MONA Cloud system on 01/08/2026, the lowest plan costs only 237 VND per hour, pay for what you use rather than being forced to pay for a full year. Handing your store's survival to a free platform with no uptime commitment is tying a rope around your own neck. If you are in business, keep control of it.

Top 10 most reliable free hosting: frequently asked questions

MONA bear analyzing and pointing out the weak points of free server lists
Right now there is no perfect free option for running a business system that makes real profit.

Browsing technical groups, you will see plenty of posts promising to set up an online store that runs smoothly on Render or Vercel without paying a single dong in monthly fees. The trouble is that behind these zero-dong accounts are many hidden limits, designed like a net waiting for your system to grow so they can force an early upgrade.

The most bitter case our clients meet is the system shutting itself off. Render's free version goes to sleep after 15 minutes with no visitors, and the next call has to wait for the system to start from scratch. That means a customer who clicks the link at midnight sits watching a blank page spin for more than ten seconds, long enough to get annoyed and leave for somewhere else. Vercel's Hobby plan documentation also says clearly that commercial use is banned, which means a small store selling a few orders a day is already breaking the rules and the platform has the right to delete the site at any time. Don't be greedy for freebies.

Another misconception we often see when cleaning up clients' old systems is looking for a cheap traditional PHP server. Most old-style free hosting does not support Node.js, Python or Docker, so the automation software that AI wrote in 2026 can hardly be put on it at all. By the time the project is stuck and has to move to Cloud VPS, our technical team has to set up the environment from zero, which costs more time than building it new from the start.

Many shop owners assume that creating a virtual machine and pressing the stop button means no more charges. Clients on MONA Cloud still message us asking why their wallet is charged after they switched the machine off. We always have to explain carefully that stopping the machine only stops processing, while the system still keeps your disk partition and static IP address. Storage is still billed at 15 VND per GB per hour until you actually delete that service. Spending 550 VND for an hour of continuous machine time in Vietnam is safer than nervously worrying about the site going down at midnight.

Don't trade your business reputation to save a few dong

MONA bear on the phone line handling infrastructure incidents for clients
We always have a Vietnamese technical team on the hotline ready to pick up and fully resolve incidents.

A customer is paying for a cart worth tens of millions of VND when the site suddenly shows a 502 error, and the customer turns around and leaves in a flash. This error often comes from a free platform putting the server into hibernation, and you lose the order right away. See also: MONA's vibe coding toolkit, free Claude Code course.

This is the situation we see all the time when we take over systems that died young, where business owners bet their cash flow on servers ready to shut the website down after exactly 15 minutes without visitors. When data is lost, however long you call, nobody can rescue you.

Clients come to MONA custom software and we hold them to one clear rule: test on free resources, but real workloads run on real hardware. We give your team a free sandbox to draft features and test rough code before anything goes online. Once you switch on a live server, you pay by the hour for actual use: the basic plan costs exactly 1,250 VND/hour, about 900,000 VND a month. Billing is plain and fair. One detail we always tell clients: stopping a machine still costs 15 VND/GB/hour to keep the disk, so to stop being charged you have to delete the service, not just press stop.

Network speed decides what you spend. Our measurements from a VNPT connection in Ho Chi Minh City on 05/09/2026 show latency to a Vietnam server of only 5-15ms, several times faster than the 30-50ms to a Singapore server. What matters most when you rent a cloud server is what happens when the system fails: our hotline 1900 636 648 picks up and works to recover your data directly, so you never wait on an email reply from overseas.

Don't run a profit-making business on free hosting. It is like opening a shopfront on a street corner with a borrowed lock from your neighbor: sooner or later you lose everything inside.

A manifesto for growing together

MONA is a software, digital transformation and AI transformation company, but above all, MONA is a B2B service company that benefits directly from this: THE MORE SUCCESSFUL VIETNAMESE BUSINESSES BECOME, THE MORE MONA BENEFITS, while a declining, slow market with weak technology is exactly what kills MONA's future business opportunities. So, more than anyone, MONA wants you to succeed, and MONA actually steps in to help you succeed.

And AI transformation is the key to that success for all of us.

Invest in a real server to keep all your revenue

At 10 p.m. on a clearance-sale day, visitors flood in to check out, the system stalls and then goes down, and all transaction data is lost for good. Only then do you see that the few hundred thousand VND saved each month cost tens of millions to fix and rebuild from scratch. Many businesses that came to MONA had also tried free hosting abroad and spent whole nights tuning configurations to push costs as low as possible. It always breaks. As soon as traffic grows, the server falls over, and when you try to get support you hit the language barrier and the time difference. The budget MONA Cloud VPS plan is billed at 550 VND/hour (1 core, 1 GB, 10 GB), about 399,000 VND a month. The Cloud host app plan is 1,250 VND/hour (2 core, 2 GB, 30 GB), about 900,000 VND per 720 hours, based on our check on 19/09/2026.

Across more than 14,000 projects we have run ourselves since 2016, no client has had to gamble their revenue like that. We set up a completely free test environment and give you MONA Cloud credit to run your scenarios before launch. When the system goes live, charges are calculated precisely by the hour in Vietnamese dong, with a proper VAT invoice, all data stays in Vietnam, and our hotline 1900 636 648 is on standby. For a news website, go ahead and use free hosting. If you sell online, buy a real server.
