What Is Render.com? The Truth About the Free Tier and a Vietnam Alternative

Customers come to MONA asking what Render.com is after their app runs for a while and suddenly reports a data loss error. We see many of you pick the free Postgres version without noticing it expires on its own after 30 days. Or you buy the $7 Starter plan and the system still goes down, because this plan only gives 512 MB, and loading images runs out of RAM instantly. The money is gone but the website still crashes.
This article lays bare the truth behind the free plans, from a website that falls asleep after 15 minutes without visitors to the complicated top-up flow of foreign platforms, so you can see clearly where to run. Our advice: for a personal project, go ahead and use the free stuff, but once it goes into real business, move straight to a Vietnamese server so there is a 1900 636 648 hotline answering when the app goes down. Do not be cheap at the wrong time.
What is Render.com, and why does every AI agent insist on using it to run apps?

Customers at MONA often show us a half-built screen where the AI is coding and throws a bright red error demanding a Render account. At that moment you yourself have no idea what this cloud platform is or whether running it costs money. In essence, Render.com is a cloud server service that lets you push source code straight up and run it immediately, skipping all the complicated server setup.
AI agents love this platform because the Workspace Hobby plan costs 0 VND. That number leads many of you to think this is a safe place to build a mini piece of software themselves without paying. When we opened the resource limits document and checked on 19/09/2026, the free plan revealed a fatal rule: if the website has no visitors for just 15 minutes, the server is forced to sleep immediately. Imagine a customer messages to ask about buying during a quiet moment, and the Zalo bot replies dozens of seconds late just because it has to wait for the system to wake up and restart. Anyone would feel the loss of that deal.
Worse, the free Postgres database is wiped automatically exactly 30 days after it is created. Even if you upgrade to the Starter plan at 7 USD a month, the system only gives half a gigabyte of RAM, which is completely overwhelmed by heavy processing features.
Free is a trap. When you need a place to run long term for custom software, the server must be in Vietnam. Do not bet your sales data on cloud platforms that shut themselves off.
Customers wait 15 minutes because of the Render Free sleep error

At a quiet lunchtime, your Zalo order-closing chatbot goes silent for half an hour, then a customer suddenly messages to ask about service prices. They wait a minute and see no reply, five minutes with no sign of life, and fifteen minutes later they get annoyed and close the deal with a competitor. A customer lost completely. When we took over fixing these cases and opened the code to check, the cause was not in the source code but in the infrastructure's sleep trap.
According to the Render Free instances documentation that we verified on 19/09/2026, the rule is stated clearly: the server shuts itself off if nobody visits for 15 minutes. By the time the first customer messages, the server has to clank back to life from scratch, and the half-finished conversation is dropped.
This plan comes with 512 MB RAM and 750 free hours per month per account. The 750-hour window is just enough for exactly one app running nonstop, and if you install a second one, the system goes down immediately. In a month the shop owner saves a few hundred thousand in infrastructure rent, but in the weekend sale loses a dozen high-value orders just because the server dozed off when customers arrived. We see many of you go custom software and wrongly assume that throwing it on a free platform is the end of the job. Save a little, lose a lot.
We strongly advise against putting the Render Free plan into your order-closing flow. This free environment exists for developers to test code at home, and putting it on a messaging channel that earns money leaves the shop owner with only regret. You get what you pay for. Spend properly on a paid server in Vietnam so the system stays awake 24/7 to greet customers.
Customer data vanishes after 30 days on free Postgres

You wake up in the morning and open the order management page to find an empty dashboard. Customers are still messaging to ask for delivery and ad spend is still being charged, but the entire purchase history in the database has vanished, so you frantically call everyone, thinking the website was attacked. The truth is almost funny. It is all because you were using the no-cost Postgres plan on Render.
Render's official documentation says it clearly: the free Postgres database expires automatically and is erased beyond recovery exactly 30 days after it is created. Many people, when build a mini piece of software themselves deliberately choose this configuration to save money, convinced that leaving it as is keeps the website running smoothly. That is a deadly trap, because the provider created this plan only for short-term code experiments, and it is absolutely not a place to store business data.
Taking over many old systems, we have watched shop owners lose thousands of orders just because they begrudged a little server fee. Paying that painful price in cash is how you learn that a real project's database must sit on a stable server in Vietnam. We measured on 05/09/2026 and got these results: creating a VPS took 11 seconds, MongoDB 41 seconds, PostgreSQL 67 seconds and MySQL 92 seconds on the domestic Proxmox cluster. Ping latency from the VNPT network in Ho Chi Minh City stays at 5 to 15ms. That is much smoother than the 30 to 50ms of servers in Singapore.
Customer data is money. Do not entrust the life of your business to a database counting down to its own deletion. Never use the free Postgres plan to catch real orders. Buy a paid domestic server right away and pay monthly for a clear invoice. That way, if the system fails at two in the morning, you can still call our people, who answer the phone and fix the problem at its root.
The real cost overrun behind Render.com pricing

Seeing the 7 USD a month price list on the homepage, many of you nod quickly, thinking you found a dirt-cheap place to run the app. The picture of fast savings shatters as soon as the source code runs in real conditions.
The 7 USD Starter plan gives exactly 0.5 CPU and 512 MB RAM. If you put a Node app that processes images on it, resources run out at once and visitors only see the page loading spinner. The engineers have to keep upgrading to rescue it.
The platform bills down to every second of use and charges by Visa/Mastercard in USD without warning. The money just disappears. Customers who come to MONA for websites often complain that at month end the accountant is stuck with these expenses, because foreign servers do not issue VAT invoices.
When taking over and cleaning up projects in custom software, we can see clearly that a server placed too far away also loses customers. According to our internal measurement system run on 05/09/2026, latency from the VNPT network in Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore sits at 30 to 50ms, while a server in Vietnam takes only 5 to 15ms. A delay of a few dozen milliseconds is enough to ruin the work.
Do not buy small foreign plans to run a real system. Rent a server in Vietnam, pay in VND, and get a clear VAT invoice so bookkeeping is easy.
A Render alternative in Vietnam with MONA Cloud's hourly-billed servers

At month end, the accountant holds the company credit card statement with dozens of small USD charges from foreign platforms that cannot be booked properly. Cloud fees are deducted straight from the director's personal card, so you feel the loss in your own pocket but have to accept it, since foreign invoices cannot be deducted for tax. To remove this cash-flow thorn directly, we move customers' infrastructure to MONA Cloud, which issues a valid VAT invoice every month.
Just scan a VietQR code to top up from ten thousand VND, and the system automatically issues an electronic invoice each month so you can book it clearly. Pricing is by the hour: CPU is 250 VND per core, RAM is 150 VND per gigabyte, and disk is 15 VND. The smallest virtual machine running nonstop costs 550 VND an hour, equal to 401,500 VND a month. In return, you own a server placed right in the country with network latency measured from VNPT Ho Chi Minh City of only 5 to 15 milliseconds, a number that crushes the 30 to 50 milliseconds of a Singapore server.
When we built the automatic top-up flow, we configured it so that Claude Code and Gemini call the command that issues a VietQR code right in the chat window. When deploying custom software, we warn very carefully about where cloud billing begins and ends. Pressing stop on a machine does not mean you stop paying, because the system still keeps the IP address and the disk, so you keep paying 15 VND for each gigabyte. To stop the charges you must delete it completely. For a long-running backend app that needs a VAT invoice, go ahead and commit. A static landing page, do not choose it.
Instead of letting a website nap at lunch or lose all its data after a month of free use, tell the AI to run the code on a real environment in Vietnam. We have a ready VPS topped up through a VietQR wallet with 10% VAT invoices. Try our free sandbox deploy.
How does our AI agent create a server in 11 seconds?

Customers who come to MONA for projects often complain about paying by card, messy USD billing, long forms and waiting a whole morning for approval just to get an empty environment. The top-up step often breaks. Say you finish writing the code and the system makes you wait for verification, which really kills the mood.
To solve this, we built an AI top-up wallet flow on the MONA Cloud infrastructure. On 17/09/2026, the assistants Claude Code, Gemini and Codex called the tool by themselves to cloud_topup create a top-up order and print a payment QR code the VietQR code right on the chat screen, so you scan once and have credit immediately. In fact, on 15/09, two of our internal products had a mismatched webhook key, so money came in but the wallet was not credited. We fixed it on 17/09, rechecked that the webhook returned 200 and that the balance was credited correctly. Since then our internal rule says every credit-notification key must be checked with a real transaction before we open it to customers.
One of our internal systems measured machine creation speed on 05/09/2026 and recorded 11 seconds to create a VPS server, 41 seconds to start MongoDB, 67 seconds for PostgreSQL and 92 seconds for MySQL on the Vietnamese Proxmox platform. Access speed measured directly from the VNPT network in Ho Chi Minh City to the MONA server is only about 5 to 15ms, much smoother than the 30 to 50ms when we rented a cluster in Singapore.
Handing infrastructure entirely to an AI manager is the base that lets us apply Agentic Vibe Coding smoothly in real projects. The machine takes over all the manual work. You only need to focus on the core solution thinking.
Four service industries that need Vietnamese servers to run internal software

Imagine customers crowding the checkout counter at noon, the cashier scans the barcode three times and the system keeps spinning without registering the order. The customer gets annoyed and leaves. This kind of dropped connection at peak hour mostly comes from a jammed line when calling a foreign server.
Customers who come to MONA for internal software often buy a foreign server to save money, and the result is heavy load that makes network latency spike right when the shop is busy. We measured on a real internal system over a VNPT line from Ho Chi Minh City on 05/09/2026: calling a Vietnamese server takes only 5 to 15 milliseconds, while going around via Singapore takes 30 to 50 milliseconds. That gap sounds tiny. Only when an order-closing task makes the system call the database over and over does that delay add up into real fatigue at the counter.
Many of you who want to cut costs ask what render.com is and why the tech team keeps pushing it. The truth is their free web plan forces the system to sleep after fifteen idle minutes, so the software hangs waiting to start every time the cashier acts again in a quiet period. The free database plan wipes itself after thirty days, so when you want to integrate online payment into your website never hand your books to a place where data evaporates like this.
A server in Vietnam ends the pointless session drops for good and gives your accountant a clear VAT invoice. When we built the AI wallet top-up flow on MONA Cloud, thanks to a domestic server, every create a payment QR code flow popped up instantly in the chat window. Do not pay for a domestic server if all you need is a static website running ads. For automatically pushing code online for a landing page, the marketing team can simply use free foreign platforms and that is enough.
Do not put a static landing page on a real server if you do not want to waste money

Many of you spend millions renting a high-spec server just to run three static intro pages, then see a monthly bill of hundreds of thousands for something whose content almost never changes. It really hurts.
Clients come to MONA build a website with AI often fall into the thinking that you must buy a really big server for a website to be fast and safe, just like when looking up what render.com is. We always have to stop this, because a VPS exists to carry apps with large data, or when the accountant needs an invoice to book in Vietnam. Those who have used it often wrongly assume that pressing stop on MONA Cloud ends the cost, but the system keeps the disk and the IP address and keeps charging 15đ/GB/hour for storage. To stop billing you must delete the service completely, not just turn it off.
When cleaning up systems, we always remove the VPS from static landing pages when your marketing staff need to preview a draft every time they edit code. As of 19/09/2026, our cloud has not released the automatic new-code update feature as planned, and Vercel does this very smoothly instead. Putting a static page on a real server only brings extra maintenance debt.
Common questions when deciding between deploying to Render and MONA Cloud

A customer is clicking pay on an order at noon when the website freezes and shows a timeout error, or at the start of the month you are surprised by a credit card charge for a project that was shut down two weeks ago. A system outage with no clear reason and money charged for nothing are the two troubles we handle most when taking over systems from customers moving out of unfamiliar cloud platforms. Do not lose money for nothing.
Do requests on Render time out after 10 seconds?
Customers who come to MONA often complain that the website freezes whenever it handles a heavy task. The cause is that requests running longer than 10 seconds are usually cut off immediately to avoid hanging the thread. When the app is loading large data or processing integrate online payment into your website, the system will certainly break midway. Worse, the Free plan puts the website to sleep after 15 minutes without traffic, and then all data on the free Postgres vanishes after exactly 30 days. Customers moving their websites to MONA often tearfully tell us about losing a whole month of orders from trying a free database like this. If a transaction makes money, do not use free stuff.
MONA Cloud's storage billing after a server is turned off
Customers who come to MONA often complain that they turned the server off at the start of the month but the wallet is still being charged. The reason is that when you press Stop on MONA Cloud, the system still keeps all the disk data and the static IP address, so the storage fee of 15 VND per gigabyte per hour quietly keeps running. We always have to explain that you must delete the service entirely for billing to stop. Delete it completely and the charges end.
The prepaid payment mechanism locks out the risk of credit card overspending. As soon as the account runs out of balance topped up through MONA Pay automatic payment gateway, the API returns a 402 error code at once and blocks every command that creates new resources. You never have to worry about waking up to a debt of tens of millions like when attaching a card on a foreign platform. Hourly-billed infrastructure has the benefit that you can always get a transparent VAT invoice, and a Vietnamese tech team is on duty to pick up the phone for support at midnight.

A manifesto for growing together
MONA is a software, digital transformation and AI transformation company, but above all, MONA is a B2B service company that benefits directly from this: THE MORE SUCCESSFUL VIETNAMESE BUSINESSES BECOME, THE MORE MONA BENEFITS, while a declining, slow market with weak technology is exactly what kills MONA's future business opportunities. So, more than anyone, MONA wants you to succeed, and MONA actually steps in to help you succeed.
And AI transformation is the key to that success for all of us.
MONA
Keep your app always ready to serve when customers flood in
Order data vanishing after a month on a free plan, a Zalo bot that makes customers wait a long time at quiet noon for the machine to wake up, or a month-end foreign card charge your accountant cannot book. We know you have tried every way to save infrastructure money for your company. Many customers come to MONA and tell how they rolled up their sleeves and picked a foreign platform, then had to stay up at night upgrading every time they ran out of RAM. That approach made the app lag constantly, charged them without warning, and lost them the tax deduction because there was no VAT invoice.
Since 2016, with over 14,000 software projects, we built the MONA Cloud platform at monacloud.vn precisely to solve the infrastructure problem cleanly. Servers are placed in Vietnam and billed by the hour from just 550 VND, wallet top-ups in VND through VietQR instantly give a 10 percent VAT invoice to put straight into the books. Your AI team calls commands through MCP and creates a server in exactly eleven seconds, as we actually measured on 05/09/2026.
If your app already has real customers and you need stable infrastructure with the MONA team standing by behind it, pick up the phone and call 1900 636 648 directly. We answer right away.
