A high-end Japanese restaurant chain in Vietnam

Tohoku Japanese Restaurant

Tohoku Japanese Restaurant, part of Donavi Holdings, is a Japanese restaurant chain inspired by the Tohoku region of northeastern Japan, with three branches at 75 Tran Thai Tong (Cau Giay, Hanoi), Gia Vien new urban area (Hai Phong) and 57 Le Nin (Vinh, Nghe An). The restaurant serves sashimi, sushi, grilled dishes, hot pot and Japanese sake, and is open in two shifts, 10:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 22:00.

MONA designed and developed a three-language website in Vietnamese, English and Japanese for Tohoku on WordPress. Guests pick their nearest branch as soon as they arrive, and after that everything, from the menu and cart to the table booking form, runs for that branch.

The challenge

Guests choose a branch first, then book a table or order food for that branch

Tohoku's three branches are in three cities hundreds of kilometers apart, each with its own hotline and table schedule. So on the first visit, the website asks guests which branch they want, and that choice is kept for the menu, the cart and the booking form.

The booking form comes pre-filled with the branch and asks for the date, time, number of adults, number of children aged 2 to 12 and whether a child seat is needed, and it only shows time slots the restaurant still has room for. The booking policy is printed right below the form: book at least 12 hours ahead, tables are held for 15 minutes, and guests get a confirmation by email or Zalo once booked. Guests with an account can log in to collect member points.

The menu page filters by category, from sashimi, sushi and rolls to hot pot and Japanese sake, and every dish shows its price and has an add-to-cart button. The whole website sits on black, dark wood and a red accent taken from the round seal in the logo, and the home page opens with a video shot inside the restaurant.
